Las sandías volantes/ Flying watermelons.

Buenos días a todos.

Continuamos con la serie de los invernaderos con la recogida de la Sandía. Mi buen amigo JC me ha invitado a asistir a la recogida en su invernadero y poder documentar el trabajo que se lleva a cabo. Hay que decir que la labor desarrollada por los trabajadores es cuanto menos digna de aplauso. Todos trabajaban con una gran profesionalidad, y llevan a cabo un trabajo digno de admiración. Recoger todo lo que es capaz de producir un invernadero como este (unos 80.000kg) en un día no es moco de pavo. Ver sandías volando tampoco es algo muy usual… hoy lo vais a ver.

Good morning everyone.

Continuing with the greenhose series. This time is the watermelon harvest. My ggod friend JC invited me to document the work involved in the watermelon harvest. This work is worthy of admiration. All workers do the job with great professionality. Picking up all the production of a greenhouse like this (about 80.000 kg) in one day is not an easy thing. If you want to see flying watermelons today is your lucky day.

Una vez terminada la serie de” El hombre y la piedra”, he pensado que dentro de dicho concepto hacía muy mal ignorando la maravillosa Petra, en Jordania. Es por ello que he decidido crear este anexo con unas pocas imágenes para completar la serie.

Once i finished “the man and the stone” series i though about the great mistake i made ignoring the wonderful Petra in Jordan. This is why i decided to create this appendix with a few images to complete the series.

Tercera y última parte de la serie.

En Egipto, hablar de la piedra es hablar del hombre que la trabajo. Es hablar del pueblo egipcio. Es hablar de superación. De cómo con herramientas de cobre y bronce se podía trabajar el granito, extraer los bloques de la cantera, transportarlos… y todo esto sin conocer el principio de la rueda. Y cómo llegar a esa perfección técnica en el trabajo de sus estatuas, relieves, bajorelieves etc. El hombre que no conocía la rueda construyó las pirámides. A día de hoy sigue siendo un misterio como pudieron llegar a tal perfección tecnológica con los “instrumentos rudimentarios” de los que disponían. Aunque seguramente la respuesta sea mas fácil de lo que creemos. Al fin y al cabo, la matemática no es ni rudimentaria ni moderna, es matemática, y su conocimiento es lo que hizo posible todas estas maravillas.

Dedicado a aquellos valientes que salieron a las calles en El Cairo a luchar un futuro mejor.

Third an last part of the series.

 

Talking about the stone in Egypt is talking about the man that handcrafted it. Is talking about overcoming, is talking about how with copper and brass tool was possible to work on granite stone, extract the blocks from the quarry and transport them… All this without knowledge of the wheel. And also how to achieve that technical perfection in the work of statues, reliefs etc. The man that didn´t know about the wheel, built up the pyramids. Nowadays still is a mystery how they could achieve such technical perfection with the “rudimentary tools” they  had at disposal. Maybe the answer is easier than we think. After all, math is not rudimentary or modern, it´s math, and it´s knowledge is what made all of this wonders possible.

Dedicated to those valiants who went out in the streets of El Cairo to fight for a better future.

12M la llama sigue viva. / 12M the flame is still alive

Se cumple un año del 15M. Para algunos es cosa de perroflautas, para otros una oportunidad de subirse a un carro politico que no les corresponde. Para unos terceros la única forma posible de expresar el descontento social con la banca, la clase política, y las injusticias. Se puede estar o no de acuerdo con los preceptos del 15 M, pero lo que no se puede hacer es negar que el movimiento está vivo.

One year after May 15th (15M) started tha flame still burns. For some is somthing of outsiders, for others is the oportunity to appear as a part of a movement that is not theirs. For a third part is the only possible way to express social dissatisfaction with banking, political class and injustice. You wether agree or not with the precepts of May 15th (15M), but you can´t deny that it is alive.

“Desde lo alto de esas pirámides, cuarenta siglos nos contemplan.” / “From the heights of these pyramids, fourty centuries look down on us.”

Va pasando el tiempo y aún no sabemos cual será el resultado para Egipto de la Primavera Árabe. Indudable es que por lo menos fué una acción espontánea del pueblo egipcio por romper las cadenas que le tenían subyugado. Lo que no se sabe es si estas cadenas serán sustituidas por otras, o si se rompieron para siempre. Sirva este post como homenaje a esa gente que un día decidió salir a la calle a luchar por lo que creyó que era justo.

As time goes by still we don`t know the results of the Arab Spring for Egypt. At least we know it was the spontaneous action of the egyptian people trying to break the chains that had them submited. But we don`t know is if these chains will just be replaced by others or if they are forever broken. This post is a tribute to the people than one day decided to go out to the streets to fight for what they thought it was worth and fair.

Bienvenidos una vez mas a éste mi humilde blog.

Os presento con ésta imagen una serie que voy a publicar en breve sobre Egipto. Ya tengo algunas cosas publicadas en este mismo blog, por ejemplo el post sobre los cristianos Coptos, pero esta va a ser desde un punto de vista un poco diferente, basado sobre todo en las texturas de la piedra y en como es imposible desligarla de la gente de Egipto. Piedra y egipto. Dos palabras que van juntas de por si, desde siempre y para siempre.
